Implementing Our Treaty Right to Education
"Education Is Our Buffalo"
"At one time, our people relied on the Buffalo to provide food, shelter, heat, clothing, and everything they needed to be self-sufficient. Today, Education is our Buffalo. Through proper Education based in our Inherent and Treaty rights, our people can provide better lives for themselves and their families."

Inherent and Treaty Rights Based Education
What are our peoples' rights to Education?
We have Inherent and Treaty rights to be educated in a way that aligns with our cultural values, customs, languages and beliefs. In this way, we can regain our identity and independence.

Implementing Our Treaty Right to Education
Building a New System
"If our communities build an education system that is based on the specific needs of our Indigenous youth, we can thrive. We need to create opportunities for our youth to learn our peoples' languages, customs and ceremonial traditions, and the things that make us spiritually whole people. To learn the lessons of our elders and become confident in who they are. That is success."

Our Work
Strength in Numbers
The Treaty Education Alliance is populated by partner First Nations, schools, Elders, community leaders and support staff. We've been working towards the development of a lifelong learning model that meets the unique needs of our people.
Why is That Important?
All of the work we do is rooted in our mission to develop confident, prosperous Nation Builders through education. With proper education, our children and their communities will transition into healthy, long-term self-sufficiency.
Our Alliance is entering into mutually respectful negotiations with Canada to implement this vision.
This unique opportunity is the result of more than a decade of hard work and persistence by our Alliance members.
